Directions in making crazy realistic dirt cups

Step 1

First, put the Oreos in a large plastic bag and crush them. You want them to be completely crushed so that the finished product really looks like dirt. I used a rolling pin to help crush mine. (If you have a fancy food processor, it would make your life a lot easier!)

Step 2

Whisk together 2 cups of cold milk with the chocolate pudding mix. Whisk for about 2 minutes or until completely mixed together.

Step 3

Mix in the Cool Whip and ¼ of the crushed Oreos.

Step 4

Place a small amount of crushed Oreos into the bottom of your container(s), then top with the pudding mixture.

How to serve realistic dirt cups

I made individual Dirt Cups, so I put them in small clear cups. Above is my finished Dirt Cup. These Dirt Cups didn’t last long at my house, and I even made extras.

our experience making dirt cups

The first time I had Dirt Cups was when I was in third grade. I was at my friend Brittany’s house for a day of swimming. Her mom made Dirt Cups for us. She put it in a real terra-cotta planter and put an arrangement of plastic flowers in the center. I was totally fooled. I actually gasped when she dipped a spoon into, what I thought was dirt, and then ate it!

And I can remember actually falling into a fit of giggles with my friend when we realized it was really just pudding and Oreo cookies. Needless to say, it was a big hit for us.

  1. We did these with organic dark chocolate cookies and a homemade chocolate custard. Sooo yummy and no chemicals in it so my son with allergies to food additives can also enjoy.

  2. I made these & it made 10. I used tumbler cups, which were a little large. Maybe next time I’ll use smaller cups & make more.

  3. I was looking for a dirt cup recipe for a Jungle Themed bake sale at my son’s school & these will be PERFECT!
