How To Make Watercolor Art With Markers

Step 1

Step 1 - Make Watercolor Art With Markers - use markers to draw a design or pattern on the paper
No matter what you draw, it’s a good idea! Your marker is like your paint brush and the marker lines is your paint.

Draw on the watercolor paper using the markers.

Notes: Any design works — scribbles, shades of solid colors. We found that creating colors close together made more colorful watercolor art than elaborate designs.

Step 2

Once your marker drawing is done, lay the paper on a flat surface and spray with water.

Step 3

Step 3 - Make Watercolor Art With Markers - let your finished artwork dry
There are so many different options when making art. And different purposes for each piece. Are you making something abstract? An emotional pieces? Just love colors?

Allow to sit and dry, watching the colors run as your new artwork is created!

Best Markers for Watercolor Art

The markers need to be water-based markers. Doesn’t matter if they have a fat tip or a fine tip, but water based markers will blend and look like water color.

Sharpie markers will not work the same. I know most of us have them in our art supplies, who doesn’t love the metallic markers, but they will only spread if you use alcohol.

I would also avoid most alcohol-based markers. Great for detailed work, not so much for this great idea of turning markers into water colors though.
