Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1

Begin with a square piece of origami paper. If you have a different color on one side that you want to show on the outside of the box, start with that side facing up.

Fold the paper in half from one side to the other.

Fold the paper in half.

Step 3

Unfold the paper to reveal a crease, and then flip it over.

Keep the colored face up.

Step 4

Fold the paper in half again, this time from top to bottom.

Fold again.

Step 5

Unfold the paper one more time. You should now have a square of paper with creases forming a cross on it.

Fold one corner of the paper to the opposite corner, forming a triangle. Pinch at the corners to make them align.

Repeat the previous step with the other corner, creating a second triangle. The two triangles should overlap, and you’ll notice two points on either side of the paper.

Fold the left corner up too, until all corners have been folded.

Fold the right edge of the paper towards the centre to create a triangle.

Fold the top corner down, but as you do, allow the adjacent corner to come up slightly. Use your thumb to gently open it up.

Tuck the top corner into the space created by the previous fold, and then flatten it down to create a crease.

Fold the opposite corners of the inflated part to the center of the box. Make sure the box maintains its shape. If it starts collapsing, simply blow into the hole again to re-inflate it.
