We love homemade Christmas gifts and this recipe for chocolate chip cookies.  Every year we try to make a plate of cookies for neighbors.

This year we created a cookie tub – made from the same spread container we used to help make our batch. Thank you Country Crock for inspiring this activity and for filling my Tupperware cabinet with tons of tubs – we use them for almost everything!

DIY cookie gift tub - made from a margarine container. Perfect homemade gift this Christmas
The best cookies need the best matching tub!

I love how the tub helps protect the cookies from going stale as quickly since they are sealed up. My son felt oh. so. grown-up using the hot glue gun to help me wrap yarn around the sides of the tub. It took a little longer than we expected and we had a couple singed fingertips – but he is proud with the results of his efforts.

My husband has a cookie recipe that creates 12 dozen cookies. We fill up two empty Country Crock, crocks full of the dough. It is perfect for the kids to scoop out spoonfuls for an after-school snack, or to pop into the oven whenever we have an unexpected guest. I think we might fill up the crocks with dough next time, let the recipient of our homemade Christmas gift scoop the cookies out whenever is best for them. The dough will keep for over 2 weeks refrigerated.

12 dozen cookies recipe - perfect to make for Christmas crowds. Stores for two weeks in the fridge.

These cookies are so amazing!

Step 1

Blend all the wet ingredients until it is no longer lumpy.

Step 2

Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Check for undissolved flour, but don’t overmix!

Step 3

We split the dough into two tubs and put them both in the fridge overnight. A quick tip: The dough is best if it sits overnight so the oats soften.

(Before we had 6 kids, one tub would go in the freezer and the other into the fridge, now they both go in the fridge and are gobbled up at an alarming rate!)

Step 4

Bake the cookies at 350 degrees for roughly 12 min.

Step 5

Let the cookies cool down and transfer them to the cookie tubs. (Or you may eat them immediately!)
