  1. Octopuses are ocean creatures that have eight arms and bulbous heads.
  2. The common octopus is 12 to 36 inches long and weighs 6.6 to 22pounds, but the largest octopus can grow to 16 feet long and weigh around 110lbs.
  3. They are cephalopods, which means they have a prominent head and a set of arms or tentacles, just like the squid or cuttlefish.
  4. Octopuses have three hearts and blue blood. 
  5. Two of the hearts work to move blood beyond the octopus’ gills, and the third keeps circulation flowing.

  1. To protect themselves from predators, they squirt ink. 
  2. Octopuses don’t have bones, which means they can squeeze into and out of very tight spaces. 
  3. The oldest octopus fossil lived 296 million years ago.
  4. Octopuses are really smart, they can navigate through mazes, solve problems, and even have different personalities.
  5. After mating, both female and male octopuses die. The male dies a few months afterward, and the female dies after the eggs hatch.
