Homemade Slime Safety & Precautions

Making homemade slime is a safe activity with adult supervision. If your child tends to put things into his/her mouth or eat non-food items, then I would wait to make slime until they are older. The harm of slime making is when ingested so be aware of that around pets as well!

Homemade Slime

Materials

  • 6 oz bottle of glue: school glue, clear glue or glitter glue
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of liquid starch
  • (Optional)Few drops of food coloring

Tools

  • Small bowl
  • Craft stick to stir

Instructions

    1. Add the glue and water into a small bowl and stir together until well combined.
    2. If you want to color your slime, add a few drops of food coloring until you reach a little darker than your desired shade.
    3. Pour in 1/4 cup of liquid starch and stir to combine until it starts to separate from the sides of the bowl.
    4. Remove it from the bowl and knead it with your hands until it is no longer sticky and stretches easily.

How do you make homemade slime?

There are lots of different ways to make homemade slime in different colors, textures and shapes. If you have never made slime before, start by using one of the basic slime recipes and then adding color, glitter and changing out the glue for different types of slime. You may want to try a different recipe later and then make changes.

How do you make slime with baking soda and glue?

The basic recipe for slime with baking soda is 5 oz of glue, 1/2 Tablespoon of baking soda and 1 Tablespoon of contact lens solution.

How do you make Elmer’s slime?

We made a basic Elmers slime recipe into Rainbow Slime by using Elmer’s Slime Starter Kit and Elmer’s Magical Liquid. It was easy and turned out colorful and fun.

How do you make easy slime?

I think the easiest slime recipe to make and remember is a simple combination of one 5 oz or 6 oz bottle of school glue, 1/2 cup of liquid starch and 1/2 cup of water. You can add food coloring to color your easy slime recipe.

Can you make slime without glue?

We have a really easy to make edible slime recipe that doesn’t contain glue. The slime ingredients are cornstarch, sweetened condensed milk, sugar and food coloring.

Can you make slime without Borax?

Totally! It’s just a little harder to clean.

There are quite a few slime recipes that use three ingredients. Our favorite is glue, water & liquid starch. We have also made it with glue, baking soda and contact solution.

There are several ways to make slime with two ingredients. We have made it with glue and saline solution or with glue and Elmers magical liquid.
