Directions to Make Snowflakes out of Q Tips

Step 1

After gathering supplies, invite kids to build their snowflakes.

Snowflakes have 6 sides, but of course kids could add more if they desire to do so.  That is why we used just 3 cotton swabs to make our Q Tip Snowflakes…but you could try more.

How We Used these Cute Q Tip Snowflake Ornaments

If you are making a homemade ornament and wanting to hang these snowflakes from your Christmas tree, add a loop of string at the end of one of the cotton swab ends.  We used a loop of red and white striped butcher’s twine. If you want to hang them from the ceiling or in a window, use string or fishing line attached directly to the end of a cotton swab. These ornaments look very beautiful hanging in clusters from the Christmas tree. From a distance, you can’t even tell they are made from Q-Tips! Hang and enjoy!

Our Experience With These Snowflake Crafts

We love snow, but thanks to living in a sub-tropical climate we often don’t see it. And paper snowflakes are fun to make and great fine motor skills, and we’ve made craft stick snowflakes. We have even used pipe cleaners! But I wanted some easy snowflake crafts that were great for my older kids and younger kids and I thought these fun snowflake crafts were perfect.

It was a fun way to make Christmas ornaments and snowflake art at the same time. They may be simple, but they’re still pretty snowflakes. And they’re easy snowflakes so my younger kids with little hands could still take part in this cute snowflake craft. They were even able to give some of these lovely snowflakes to their friends and grandparents too. This is my favorite snowflake craft because it could also be made in the classroom, even a preschool classroom, by all age groups.

I also just had the though this could be used as weather crafts for young kids. But back to my first idea… we could dip the q-tips in a thin layer of glue and roll them in glitter. There are so many different ways to make this snowflake craft your own. But I think I would use:
