Instructions to make a Christmas tree origami craft

Step 1

Let’s get started!

Fold the piece of paper in half.

Now let’s open…

Open then fold the other way in half.

…and fold it the other way.

Flip over and fold diagonally. 

Step 4

Open again!

Open and then fold opposing corners diagonally.

And fold diagonally again.

We’re halfway there!

Bring corners together, letting sides fold inward at creases to form a square.

It will look something like this.

Step 6 - Origami Christmas tree fold from the edges to form a kite shape
Now it should look like a small kite.

Squash fold to form a kite from each of the four outside corners.

It looks like this but as you cut off the corners…

Cut off the bottom corners along the horizontal border of the kite, leaving a triangle shape.

And after cutting all of the corners, it will look like this!

It’s starting to look like a tree!

Make four cuts along each side of the triangle, about two-thirds of the way towards the center for each cut.

Cut off the bottom part.

Fold the bottom corner of the outer edge of each cut to the inner end of the top of the cuts above to form the triangular tree ‘branch’.

Our Experience with Making origami Christmas trees

This craft tutorial is awesome enough as it is; I don’t think you need to change anything. However, if you want to make it even more original or festive, Christmas themed wrapping paper works great too.

In fact, you can also try using larger paper for larger Christmas trees! Glue on sequins to make it even more vibrant.

Make your own Christmas tree origami in 12 steps!

Materials

  • Green 6 inch square origami paper
  • Pair of scissors
  • Optional: glue on sequins for ornaments or glitter for tinsel

Instructions

  1. Fold piece of paper in half.
  2. Open then fold the other way in half.
  3. Flip over and fold diagonally. 
  4. Fold opposing corners diagonally.
  5. Bring corners together, letting sides fold inward at creases to form a square.
  6. Squash fold to form a kite from each of the four outside corners
  7. Cut off the bottom corners along the horizontal border of the kite, leaving a triangle shape.
