Thanksgiving Paper Placemats Craft

This simple and easy traditional kids woven construction paper craft creates homemade Thanksgiving placemats for Thanksgiving dinner with minimal supplies needed and fun for kids of all ages. This Thanksgiving craft is a great way to keep your little one busy. Plus, let’s be honest, Thanksgiving dinner can be messy because kids, especially smaller ones, make a mess when they eat. So using placemats at the table can minimize the chaos.

Supplies Needed To Make Homemade Sugar Glue

Let’s make a Thanksgiving woven placemat!

Directions to Make Thanksgiving Placemat

Step 1

Mix your flour, sugar, water, and oil in a pot and stir it over low heat until it is combined and a smooth texture.

Step 2

Let it cool to room temperature.

Step 3

Cut four different colors of construction paper into long 3/4 inch strips.

Step 4

Mark 3/4 inch lines on the inside of the 2 lines.

Step 5

Cut along the marks creating slits in the paper. This is the base of your placemat.

Step 6

Weave the paper through the slits alternating with each color.

Step 7

Once the slots in the placemat base are filled use homemade sugar glue to glue the ends of the strips to the ends of the placemat. Cut any strips that hang over.

Step 8

Cut out leaf shapes or other fun fall shapes and glue them to your placemat using your homemade sugar glue.

Step 9

Allow to dry and then use your new woven placemat for Thanksgiving!
